Find the right journals for your publication

One of the first courses I took in graduate school at the University of Oregon was Teaching and Professional Life, designed to prepare doctoral students for careers as assistant professors. During that time, I was struck by how few resources existed to help graduate students navigate the landscape of scholarly publishing — which journals are relevant to my work? Where should I submit? Which conferences should I attend? Which professional associations like ICA, AEJMC, IAMCR, and NCA should I join? I began compiling a list of journals in communication and adjacent fields, along with professional associations and their conferences. What started as a personal reference has grown into this searchable database of 76 peer-reviewed journals. I hope it helps other graduate students and early-career scholars make more informed decisions about where to publish and where to engage. This resource will continue to grow.
